This is one of the two XVIII Century printing presses still existing in Russia. The press was made at the order of Peter I: "I Command to make the printing press that could be carried on the road; a yard in length, how that is known to foreigners that we have at the Printing house and do it without any delay". In 1711 the Press was taken with the Russian army during the Prut campaign, and in 1722 was taken by Peter the Great to the Persian campaign. The Moscow Printing House made for it a "Turkish alphabet" (Arabic font) for printing proclamations, to be sent to the enemy camp. Later the Printing press has for a long time worked in the Moscow Synodal printing house at Nikolskaya street.
