More information...

The sled body is arranged by a vertical rear board in the form of a rectangular frame with a pattern of chiselled parts. Outside, the side boards, like the back board, have a grid of chiselled balusters and spinners with a sublayer of gilded foil, which lost its original brightness years ago.
Design of the body of the sled could be attributed to the ancient type of sled with runners. Constructing those children's sled the craftsman made it lighter by building the body boards in the form of a grid of chiselled parts, which also became an element of decoration.
Similar decor could be found on other household items made in the Yaroslavl province in the XVIII – first half of the XIX Centuries. Probably, such successful technological, constructive and decorative solutions could be attributed to the regional features of the Volga region – the famous center of arts and crafts.
Perhaps, these children's sled is a sample so-called "lattice sled” often mentioned in documents of XVII Century that existed since much earlier times.
