According to the established practice "Admiralty models" accurately reflected the design, structure and armament of the ship. Those models were used, in addition to drawings, in the construction of the ship.
By design, the ship belongs to a series of 66-cannon battleships of the "Glory of Russia" type. Ships of that type were built from 1733 to 1774 in St.Petersburg and Arkhangelsk. A total of 58 ships of this type were built.
This ship is named after three hierarchs of the Orthodox Church (Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom). It was built in St.Petersburg Admiralty by the ship builder Danilo Ultim. In 1766 she joined the Baltic fleet. This ship also took part in the war with Turkey in 1768–1774 as part of the 1st Archipelago squadron of Admiral Spiridov (1713–1790). The commander of the ship was a Captain of Brigadier rank Samuel K.Greig (1736–1788), awarded for merits in the Chios (June 24, 1770) and the Chesme (Jun 26, 1770) battles with order of St.George of 2nd class. She was the flagship of the commander-in-chief of the Russian fleet, General-en-Chef Alexei G.Orlov (1735–1807). Until October of 1774 she participated in fighting in the Mediterranean Sea. October 19, 1775 she arrived in Kronshtadt. On July 7, 1776 she participated in the Her Majesty’s review of ships of The Archipelago squadrons in the Kronshtadt roadstead. Dismantled in Kronshtadt in 1786.
