This is the original of the quill used by Emperor Alexander II to sign the journal of the meeting of the State Council, where was made a decision to abolish serfdom. The quill is attached to a slip of cardboard with the explanatory note made the Minister of Internal Affairs Sergei Stepanovich Lanskoy, in a wooden frame.
Lanskoy Sergey Stepanovich (1787–1862) was a Russian statesman and a Minister of Internal Affairs (1855–1861), Count (1861); a supporter and an active participant in the preparation of the peasants’ reform.
