The contribution of the Metropolitan of Novgorod, Alexander (?–1591) to the St. Anthony's monastery.
When the Sobor (Gathering) in 1589 proclaimed the Moscow Patriarchate Archbishop of Novgorod Alexander was one of three along with Metropolitan of Moscow Job and Archbishop of Rostov Varlaam candidates running for Patriarchate. In the same 1589, in connection with the establishment of the Metropolis of Novgorod, Alexander was promoted to dignity of Metropolitan of Novgorod.
