Upper Paleolithic sculptures made of mammoth tusk or stone depicting naked women were widely distributed throughout Northern Eurasia and were iconic works of art from that era. The age of statuettes from the Gagarino camp site exceeds 20 thousand years. Sometimes such sculptures were found hidden inside homes or in special storage pits. One of the sculptures depicts two female figures joined by their heads. One of the figures is smaller than the other. The figurines are made very schematically, most of details are not worked out sorely, but it is obvious that these are women's figures. Perhaps these are not finished yet work pieces which are supposed to be separated. If this was a deliberate presentation of two connected figures, it could have been associated, for example, with the beginning of the formation of the so-called "cult of twins".
Functional purpose: such sculptures could be talismans that protect and bring good luck, as well as symbols of fertility.
Notice of uniqueness: double statuettes are not found anywhere else in the Upper Paleolithic.
