Nephrite pendant

A large green nephrite pendant has subtriangular shape. The angles of the object are rounded, with one angle being rounded more intensively than the other two. In the middle of the pendant there is a hole, drilled and smoothed, it is slightly beveled in respect to the surface. The hole was drilled from both (opposite) sides, the drilling start points in front and reverse are not exactly opposite each other. The surface of the object is thoroughly polished. Most likely, the object was worn on a string or rope. The pendant is quite heavy; thus, it is difficult to determine whether it was used as decoration or as ceremonial object. Nephrite is a very rare mineral, but it can be found in Transbaikalia. It is extremely rare to find it on Upper Paleolithic archeological sites. At that period nephrite was never used to manufacture tools.
It is a unique object of that kind of the Upper Paleolithic period in the territory of Northern Eurasia.
