This is the so-called angle dihedral burin, which is made on a regular blade. The incisor edge is located on the long axis of the tool almost symmetrically relative to the edges. Such tools were created by applying two oblique blows to the end of the blank. The intersection of the chips formed a narrow working facet edge, that could cut grooves in hard materials such as bone, tusk and wood. With this burin, it was possible to cut the hides, to apply ornaments on flat surface, etc. This versatile multifunctional tool was often used as a chisel and a knife. The bottom of the plate – the handle – is broken off. It was often inserted into a bone or wooden handle and often broke off when pressed too hard. There are traces of use on the edges of the plate. They could remain from tying or from working with the edges of this plate as a cutting blade.
Functional purpose: a common tool for creating grooves and slots in various materials.
This is a very common tool of the Paleolithic period.
