Burin

This tool is a truncation burin with a oblique retouching, made on a blade. A burin is a tool used for working on bone and wood, like modern burins. It has a working cutting edge located at the intersection of the broken end of the plate and the edge of the lateral chip, which is damaged. The edges of the plate are covered with large and not very smooth retouchings. The burin was used to cut on tusk, bone, wood and soft mineral materials as well as to cut hides and skins. It was used to create grooves, level the surface and remove excess material. Sometimes, burin was also used as a knife. Its functional purpose was to cut grooves and shape and treat the surface of objects made from organic materials such as bone, tusks, wood and hides. This is a common find from the Upper Paleolithic sites in Eurasia.
