Backed edge bladelet

A microlithic tool is made on a plate of a regular shape – it is an insert for a larger composite tool. One edge of the product is almost completely retouched with small facets. It is slightly convex and uneven. The second edge is straight and has no traces of processing, but shows signs of use - small irregular chips. This type of tool was commonly inserted with a sharpened edge into a slot in a bone or wood base, and the unprocessed edge served as a sharp cutting edge. The thin end of the object has been broken off, and it is possible that this could also be the tip of a projectile tool. The functional purpose of this tool is to be used as an insert in a composite tool. It is a common find at sites from the Upper Paleolithic period in Eurasia.
